The Role
We are a growing residential block management company looking for an experienced Fire Safety Inspector to join our compliance team. You'll take ownership of fire safety across a diverse portfolio of managed properties, ensuring every building meets its statutory obligations and our own high standards.
This is a hands-on, field-based role with real impact - your work directly protects residents, keeps buildings compliant under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Building Safety Act 2022, and shapes how we operate as an organisation.
We welcome applications from experienced inspectors and from those looking to move into a dedicated fire safety role, provided you have a grounding in fire safety principles and a genuine drive to develop in this field.
What You'll Do
- Carry out scheduled fire safety inspections across your designated portfolio of properties
- Assess compliance against the FSO 2005, relevant British Standards (BS 5839, BS 5266, BS 9999), and internal policies
- Inspect fire detection and alarm systems, emergency lighting, fire doors, compartmentation, firefighting equipment, means of escape, and AOV/smoke control systems
- Identify hazards and deficiencies; produce clear, detailed action plans and recommendations
- Complete accurate inspection reports promptly and maintain records suitable for audit
- Follow up with site managers and contractors to drive timely resolution of outstanding actions
- Review fire risk assessments and verify that recommended actions have been implemented
- Support fire incident investigations as required
- Liaise with external contractors, fire authorities, and internal departments
- Advise site teams on compliance obligations, best practice, and safety improvements
- Contribute to inspection scheduling to ensure adequate coverage across the portfolio
- Support mobilisation of new property acquisitions, including complexity and feasibility assessments
- Participate in internal audits to support regulatory and organisational compliance
- Provide training and guidance to property staff where needed
What We're Looking For
- Sound knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Building Safety Act 2022
- Working knowledge of BS 5839, BS 5266, and BS 9999
- Proven experience conducting fire safety inspections in residential or commercial settings
- Ability to produce clear, accurate written reports and action plans
- Confident communicator able to engage contractors, site teams, and fire authorities
- Organised, self-managing approach to scheduling and follow-up
- Relevant fire safety qualification (e.g. IFE membership, NEBOSH Fire, Level 3/4 FRA)
We'll also consider candidates who:
- Are coming from a related role (e.g. facilities management, building management, construction, or the fire service) and are looking to move into a specialist fire safety position
- Can demonstrate a clear interest in fire safety through self-study, relevant coursework, or hands-on experience - even if not yet in a dedicated inspector role
- Are motivated to work towards formal fire safety qualifications with our support
