We are recruiting for a temporary Independent Living Advisor to support older residents across a housing scheme in East London. This is a hands-on, varied role working directly with residents day to day ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working with older people and takes pride in delivering a warm, friendly service.
What the role involves:
You'll be the key point of contact for residents, supporting them with tenancy queries, move-ins, housing benefit guidance, and promoting independence. Day to day you'll carry out scheme safety checks, monitor contractor performance, maintain accurate records, and respond to low-level emergencies when they arise. Some evening, weekend and mobile working will be required.
Key responsibilities include:
* Building strong relationships with residents and delivering a high standard of customer service
* Assisting new residents to settle in and understand their tenancy rights and responsibilities
* Helping residents access housing benefit support and financial advice
* Carrying out regular site inspections and health & safety checks including communal areas and lifts
* Monitoring contractor quality on scheme (grounds maintenance, window cleaning, laundry etc.)
* Completing referrals for assistive technology, aids and adaptations
* Maintaining detailed and accurate scheme records
* Responding to emergencies raised through housing colleaguesWhat we're looking for:
Essential:
* Previous experience working with older people
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to individual needs
* Good administrative and numeracy skills
* Confident using Microsoft Office
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* A relevant professional or vocational qualification
* Full UK driving licenceDesirable:
* Working knowledge of Housing Benefit
* Experience dealing with bereavement and loss
