Facilities Assistant / Handy Person - Innovation Office, Commercial
Who We Are, What We Do
Our client is an exciting Innovation Hub Office who are building a 200,000sqft campus in the heart of West London.
This centre is home to many of innovative scale up businesses, who will be part of the business building ecosystem they are creating. Their vision is to create a facility which will foster 'collisions', collaboration and innovation between tenants, including facilitating access to research, talent and venture building expertise.
Phase A of the development has delivered 100,000sqft, which opened in June 2020 with Phase B due to be operational in May 2021 delivering a further 75,000sqft. We are now looking for the person who will be responsible for delivering against the vision of a truly differentiated experience for all members every day.
Purpose of the job.
As an important member of the facilities team, you will be responsible for helping for maintaining the newly built innovation centre. You will be one of a team of 2 onsite Maintenance / Handyperson responsible for the day to day maintenance and upkeep of the space.
With your keen eye for detail, you will be proactive in resolving faults that you identify on your daily walkaround and that are reported to you.
You will provide a friendly and efficient service to members.
You will have previous working experience in maintenance or as a handy person.
You will have knowledge of ad hoc maintenance, security, health and safety and DIY
Key Accountabilities
The Facilities Assistant / Handyperson would support the Facilities Manager with the following duties:
- In conjunction with the Facilities Manager, to implement the planned preventative maintenance program
- Assisting in the setting up and dismantling of furniture within Conference Rooms, Meeting rooms and Events spaces.
- Maintaining the fabric of the space in accordance with best working practice.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and those safe working practices are adhered to.
- Working with the Facilities Manager to ensure fire safety procedures and checks, including ensuring fire alarms, emergency lights and extinguishers are correctly adhered to and maintained.
- When required undertake repairs to ensure that the buildings are maintained to a good standard.
- Providing a porting service if required.
- Assist with Portable Appliance Testing.
- Responding to all faults. Overseeing repairs or maintenance as reported by staff, and tenants according to there priority.
- Supervising contractors to undertake repairs as required, ensuring satisfactory completion of works to a good standard.
- Responding to emergencies and urgent issues as they arise.
- Managing and executing other projects as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
- To cover facilities issues in the absence of the Facilities Manager.

This position requires someone with:
- Strong DIY skills and maintenance experience are essential such as moving floor boxes and relaying carpet tiles.
- Self-motivated and able to use initiative
- Understanding of Health and Safety rules would be an advantage
- Experience in working in a customer focused environment
- Ability to manage, prioritise and organise workload
- Good communication skills
- Able to fit well within a team
- Basic understanding of AC systems/AHU's would be an advantage
Skills required:
- Basic electrical knowledge, ability to identify fuse faults and change fuse
- Good knowledge of decoration and paint types and uses
- Ability to unblock toilets and drains
- Ability to investigate and solve problems with cistern/constant flushing and non flushing
- Ability to repair or replace locks
